Corner Olsen & Musgrave Avenues, Southport
THE GOLD COAST’S BEST NIGHTCLUBS AS VOTED BY YOU
Live acoustic music, sunset drinks and views of the Gold Coast cityscape awaits at The Aviary Rooftop Bar’s Sunday sessions. The restaurant atop Mantra Sharks offers plenty of deals on food and drinks on the Sabbath, including $30 cheese and wine for two, $15 pizzas, $6 tap beers and a $13 cocktail of the day. Stretch out alfresco or relax on the window-side lounges while taking in the chilled out tunes from 2pm. “We hand pick local, acoustic artists to perform every Sunday, from established Gold Coast artists, to up-and-coming talent,” Aviary bar manager Cameron Coull says.

There’s a reason The Collective Palm Beach’s Sunday sessions are called Blush Sundays — everyone’s looking a little rosy from spending all weekend at the beach. From 3 to 5pm, guests are treated to bottomless rosé, spritzers and a shared charcuterie platter for $40 per person on The Rooftop. “The Rooftop at The Collective is the ideal place to wind down on a Sunday afternoon,” The Collective director Jeremy Davidson says. “You can see the ocean, watch the sunset and relax with friends whilst kicking back to live music and enjoying some chilled rosé and spritzers.”
NEW SOUTHERN COAST BAR FEATURES BARGAIN COCKTAIL
Burleigh Pavilion
3a/43 Goodwin Tce, Burleigh Heads
Picture this — you’re perched on a rooftop with a glass of cool sangria in one hand and a slice of pizza in the other, watching the waves roll in as the sun sets on Burleigh Beach. Sounds dreamy, right? “Sunset drinks here are insane from 4 o’clock,” Burleigh Pavilion general manager John Forest says. The Pavilion’s Sunday sessions start at 3pm with a DJ and deals on jugs of sangria while the two pizza ovens get a work out. You’ll have to arrive unfashionably early if you’re looking to bask in the afternoon glory — The Pavilion is a walk-in only venue. “The doors open at 11 on a Sunday, the venue’s full by 12.30pm,” John says.

Komune Resort and Beach Club
144-146 Marine Pde, Coolangatta
WHERE TO CELEBRATE OKTOBERFEST ON THE GOLD COAST
You’re going to want to start late on Monday, or better yet, take the whole day off, after hitting up one of Komune’s legendary Sunday sessions. The Coolangatta resort hosts a pool party at its Beach Club from 3pm with pumping music, a taco bar and drink specials. “Every Sunday we run our $10 wristband deal, which includes five drinks on arrival and a taco for the first 150 people through the door,” events manager Tari Peterson says. “In the afternoon it’s very chilled out and relaxing, we’ve got day beds by the pool, there’s girls in bikinis drinking cocktails, then when the sun goes down it’s definitely a party inside.”

Bine Bar and Dining owner Scott Imlach says Nobby Beach was the original spot to wrap up the weekend. “First it started at Nobby’s surf club, then it went to the small restaurants and bars and has become an institution,” he says. Craft beer dispensary Bine offers the same daily deals on Sunday, with 50c wings and $5 beers between 4 and 6pm. “We also run a burger and beer every Sunday for $15,” Scott says. “This weekend we run live music from 4.30pm. The crowd we get is 100 per cent local. They are generally aged 28-plus, just after a couple of beers to finish the week.”
