ALMOST a dozen women are vying for the chance to become Miss Cooly Rocks On at this week’s festival.
The pageant seeks to find “the wholesome Pin Up Girls of yesteryear” among its 10 finalists.
MC and hostess Chrissy Keepence said it was not like what most people might imagine.

“It’s not like in the movies where you see contestants sabotaging each other,” she said.
“At any given time you can walk into a dressing room and find one of the contestants helping one another with a hairstyle, their eyeliner, straightening their seams.

“They’re vying for it but not at the expense of seeing someone else tripping up.”
Contestant Señorita Loiza Perla, also known as Laura Woolcott, has never competed in a pageant before.

Originally from Puerto Rico, the 37-year-old said it was a chance for her to make friends after her move to Australia last year.
“It was also a really good opportunity for me to share my culture and heritage with everyone,” she said.
“So in everything that I’m doing from my dress to what I’m doing on stage, it’s a real ode to that Spanish culture that I come from.”
Miss Cooly Rocks On will be crowned on Thursday night at Twin Towns.
The winner and runner up will receive a number of prizes including a one-night stay in a QT Oceanview King Room for two, annual passes to Village Roadshow Theme Parks and a $500 Laurina Jean Gift Voucher.
Cooly Rocks On starts tomorrow and runs until Sunday.
