Escape in 60 seconds: What to do on the Gold Coast

A POPULAR Gold Coast restaurant known locally for creating authentic Indian meals packed with flavour is planning to spread their spicy gospel further afield.

Randhawa’s Indian Cuisine has become so popular with Brisbane residents that owners Nina Randhawa and Harry Randhawa hope to open a restaurant in the Queensland capital.

It comes after the family owned business was voted the best Indian restaurant of the Gold Coast by Bulletin readers.

Randhawa’s Indian Cuisine was one of 12 finalists who were narrowed down from more than 1400 nominations.

Ms Randhawa said the win was only possible thanks to her hardworking children and staff and the restaurant’s loyal customers.

“It’s an amazing feeling. We’re very happy and thankful for all the people who made us success,” Ms Randhawa said.

She said her team of 70 staff were a “great team” and wanted to specially thank her marketing manager and bookkeeper.

“They have always supported us through the ups and downs and have been with us for the last eight or nine years.”

Ms Randhawa said her husband and executive chef was adamant about using fresh ingredients and making dishes from scratch.

She said it was those “small things” that kept customers coming back and attracting diners from Brisbane.

“My husband always uses fresh tomatoes to make the gravy and he will never let the chefs buy crushed garlic or ginger, everything is made fresh on site.”

The Randhawas moved from New Zealand to the Gold Coast in 2007. They opened their first restaurant at Hope Island in 2007.

They now have four Indian restaurants and two Thai restaurants throughout the Gold Coast.
