IT’S the super-sized pastry tantalising tastebuds and curing COVID-19 blues.
Bam Bam Bakehouse has released a jumbo version of their best-selling salted-caramel eclair, measuring more than 30 centimetres in length.
Head chef Aurelio Gulino said Gold Coasters went nuts when the cafe started selling the $45 dessert online this month.
“It seems people are loving big decadent desserts and emotional eating during COVID-19,” he laughed.
“I have been a pastry chef for 14 years and I think now, more than ever, people are obsessed with sweet treats to take the edge off.
“Hence, why patronage has been strong during COVID-19 as we thrive on sugary takeaway.”
The girthy eclair, featuring crispy choux pastry, vanilla custard, salted-caramel ganache and 22-karat gold leaf, feeds about four people or “two hungry people”.
