Toni Collette and Dave Galafassi had been separated for a “substantial period” of time before they announced their divorce this week.
The couple was forced to clarify the line of events after the Australian drummer was photographed kissing another woman in Sydney ahead of their break-up announcement, leading fans to think he cheated.
Collette, 50, initially posted the statement to her Instagram page, before later adding the line, “After a substantial period of separation”.
“After a substantial period of separation, it is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing,” the newly edited version of their joint Instagram statement reads.
“We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other. Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape.”
The former couple — who tied the knot in 2003 — share 14-year-old daughter Sage Florence and 11-year-old son Arlo Robert.
“We’re thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully,” the post concluded. “Big thanks.”
The statement came less than 24 hours after paparazzi photos surfaced of Galafassi making out with another woman while at the beach in Australia.
After locking lips in the ocean, the 44-year-old musician and the woman, who has since been identified as 41-year-old Shannon Egan, got handsy on shore with Galafassi touching the chiropractor’s backside.
Shortly after the PDA-packed photos were released, the Unbelievable actress posted a cryptic quote to her Instagram story that read, “No matter what your current circumstances are, if you can imagine something better for yourself, you can create it.”
Despite announcing their divorce, neither Collette nor Galafassi has spoken out about the drummer’s latest romance.
