Toni Collette divorcing husband David Galafassi after 19 years

The Australian actress has made a rare announcement about her private life, as photos of her husband were published online today.

Toni Collette has announced she and her husband of 19 years are divorcing.

The Australian actress, 50, and musician David Galafassi, 44, married in 2003 and share two children together. Collette announced news of their shock split in a joint statement on her newly-reactivated Instagram account.

The divorce announcement comes as photos were published by an Australian media outlet today, showing Collette’s husband kissing another woman at a Sydney beach. The photos were reportedly taken yesterday.

“It is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing. We’re united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other,” the Knives Out star began her post.

“Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape. We’re thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully. Big thanks.”

The couple have kept their marriage relatively private over the years. Collette reactivated her Instagram account just five days ago, sharing a photo of herself drinking from a ‘Happy Birthday’ cup and writing, “I’m back. Hello world. I love you.”

Toni reactivated her Instagram account this week with a photo of herself, writing, "I'm back."

Collette also took to her Instagram stories hours before the divorce announcement with a cryptic quote, which read, “No matter what your current circumstances are, if you can imagine something better for yourself, you can create it.”

Collette and Galafassi relocated back to Sydney from Los Angeles in 2019 with their daughter Sage, 14, and son Arlo, 11. They had lived in the US since the early 2000s.

Collette, a Golden Globe and Emmy winning TV and film star, met Galafassi in 2002 at an album launch for his then-band, Australian-founded Gelbison. They were married a year later in a traditional Buddhist ceremony.

The pair made headlines on Christmas Day in 2019 when Galafassi was involved in a near-fatal motorbike accident in rural NSW, with the Muriel’s Wedding actress taking to social media at the time to thank paramedics for saving her husband’s life.

“Recently my husband had a devastating motorbike accident. He’s now recovering slowly but well. We’re so lucky to still have him. It may not have been the case without the work of the incredible folks at NSW Ambulance and Toll Ambulance Rescue,” her Instagram post read.

“Thank you so very much for your swiftness, clarity, knowledge, compassion and dedication. You saved him and we cannot thank you enough. Yes, it is a very Merry Christmas. Thank you.”
