Otis Dhanji, 13, has been cast as the young incarnation of Jason Momoa’s King of the Seven Seas in the latest blockbuster to film on the Gold Coast.
AMBER HEARD JOINS CROWDS AT NIMBIN’S MARDIGRASS
While Dhanji appeared alongside Colin Friels last year in Belvoir St Theatre’s acclaimed stage production of drug trade drama Mortido, his role in Aquaman marks his feature film debut.
Dhanji is due to film his first scenes on the Aquaman set indoors at Village Roadshow Studios this week.
Due for release in December, 2018, Aquaman is being directed by James Wan, best known for his work on Insidious, The Conjuring and 2015’s Furious 7, which cost $US190 million to make and raked in more than $US350 million at the box office.
AMBER HEARD OUTRANKS AQUAMAN CASTMATES
Dhanji’s casting is a sure sign Aquaman will feature flashbacks to Arthur Curry’s childhood to illustrate his relationship with his father, Thomas Curry — the role being played by New Zealand star Temuera Morrison.
Cameras began rolling on the film, which boasts a budget of more than $A350 million, at the Oxenford studios on May 2 (Australian time).
Filming is scheduled to wrap on September 29.
In other father/son casting news, Momoa will team up with comedy star Will Ferrell — to play his son in an as-yet untitled feature film for Paramount to be produced by Ferrell’s company, Gary Sanchez.
