GOLD Coast actor Margot Robbie is developing a new Shakespearean TV series with a Logie-nominated local production company.
Hollywood actor and producer Robbie has teamed up with Hoodlum Entertainment, the Brisbane production company behind Elsa Pataky’s new Netflix original series Tidelands, for a new untitled ‘Shakespeare Project’ to screen on the ABC next year.

Billed as a modern take on William Shakespeare’s classic plays, the comedy/drama TV series is being adapted for the small screen by writer Giula Sandler, whose previous credits include Nowhere Boys and Glitch.
The series is being executive produced by Sandler, Robbie, Hoodlum’s Tracey Robertson and Nathan Mayfield and Brett Hedblom, vice president (television) of Robbie’s production company LuckyChap.
EPIC NEW MOVIE SHOOTING ON COAST
“It’s early days at the moment but it’s been, just being able to work with that calibre — it opens doors, it pushes you hard,” Robertson told a Screen Queensland (SQ) and Screen Producers Australia (SPA) panel event at The Star Gold Coast today as part of this weekend’s Gold Coast TV Week Logie Awards.
THE REAL REASON QUEENSLAND FOUGHT SO HARD FOR THE LOGIES
“Creatively so far we’ve had a fantastic time. It’s been interesting and really good.”
Robbie hinted she could be home to film a project this year during an interview with News Corp’s Stellar magazine in January.
“Next year’s goal is to be filming something back home in Australia. That’s our goal,” she said.
“We have got a lot of good things in development, amazing Aussie writers and Aussie directors, and that’s what I am most excited about for 2018: coming home.”
Hoodlum Entertainment-produced ABC drama series Harrow, starring Welsh actor Ioan Gruffudd as crime-solving forensic pathologist Dr Daniel Harrow, is nominated for most outstanding drama series at tomorrow night’s Logie Awards.
LOOK WHO’S IN THE NEIGHBOURSHOOD
The company is currently near the end of its Gold Coast and Brisbane shoot for Tidelands, Netflix’s first stand-alone Australian commission.
Harrow isn’t the only SQ-supported production nominated for a Logie, with SBS’s Safe Harbour up for most outstanding miniseries or telemovie and NITV’s Grace Beside Me nominated for most outstanding children’s program.
Australia’s ABC and the US’ ABC Studios commissioned a second 10-part season of Harrow in May after the show’s first season, which hit screens in March, was a ratings success.
