Gold Coast actor lands role alongside Elsa Pataky in new Netflix series Tidelands

GOLD Coast actor Brad McMurray has landed a role alongside Byron Bay-based Spanish star Elsa Pataky in the locally-filmed Netflix Original TV series Tidelands.

GOLD Coast actor Brad McMurray has landed a role alongside Byron-based Spanish star Elsa Pataky in the locally-filmed Netflix Original TV series Tidelands.

McMurray holds the distinction of being one of the few Aussie actors to have appeared in both rival soaps Neighbours and Home and Away.

An eight-part supernatural crime drama series created by Stephen M. Irwin and co-produced by Hoodlum, Tidelands stars Charlotte Best, Aaron Jakubenko, Peter O’Brien and Pataky, best known for her roles in The Fast & Furious film franchise.

Filming began on Monday at Steiglitz, a semirural village 16km east of Beenleigh on Pimpama Island, adjoining the Main Channel in South Moreton Bay — and will continue for the next four months in Brisbane, Moreton Bay and at Redlands.

Series’ director Toa Fraser posted on Instagram that he was stuck on the M1 heading to set near Pimpama on the first day of shooting.

“First day of shooting a new project in #Queensland. We’re heading out ... there’s delays on the motorway and the engine’s overheating but it’s all right guys I’ve got mosquito bracelets and apple cider vinegar. #SetLife. (OK the car’s broken down). @netlix #Tidelands,” he captioned a picture of himself uploaded on Instagram.

Pataky put in some serious training during (pictured) pre-production at the Centenary Aquatic Centre, in Brisbane, posting video and pictures of herself jumping from the 10m dive high tower and walking on the bottom of the pool.

“Training for an amazing project coming soon! 10 meters jump 😬 #workingmama #secrets” she captioned a video of herself jumping feet first from the dive tower.

Filming on Tidelands began as Logie-winning TV producer, director and actor Chris Lilley continued talent-scouting for his as-yet untitled Netflix series, currently shooting on the southern Gold Coast.

ATG hears Lilley has been looking for real-life brothers to play brothers, fitness models and people to play real estate agents, among other things.

All of which so far adds up to what promises to be a mocking good tribute to the Gold Coast!

The notoriously secretive Lilley is staying in a house in Mermaid Beach while he films the comedy series.

While he’s been doing his best to keep things low-key, he’s been spotted at local venues including Alfred’s Diner on the Gold Coast Highway at Mermaid Beach.
