Film buffs are in luck as the Gold Coast’s first major cinema complex reopens tomorrow. Here’s a guide to the movies on offer and strict cinema COVID-19 rules.

FILM buffs are in luck as the city’s first major cinema complex reopens on Thursday.

Harbour Town’s Reading Cinema will resume screenings from 11.30am, with only 20 people allowed in the foyer and cinemas at once.

With restricted numbers and staggered movie sessions, moviegoers are encouraged to book in advance online and pre-fill contact tracing forms.

The online system will automatically block out seats on either side of each booking and ticket holders are asked to arrive 15 minutes before their session time to access the Candy Bar.

A Reading Cinemas spokeswoman said screenings would resume as they were prior to COVID closures.

“New releases are set for next month along with family friendly titles during the school holidays,” she said.

Reading Cinemas movie showings from Thursday 18 June to Friday June 26 include 1917, Bad Boys For Life, Birds of Prey, Bloodshot, Call of the Wild, TAKE Showcase – Jojo Rabbit, Emma, Midway, Miss Fischer and the Crypt of Tears, Sonic the Hedgehog, Spies in Disguise, The Current War, The Invisible Man and The Way Back.

New release Tenet, a spy film written and directed by Christopher Nolan, will be on show from July 16.

The cinema has implemented extra measures to ensure health and safety including staffed entry and exit points, outdoor queuing, “touch point” cleaners on constant rotation, extended cinema cleaning with hospital grade disinfectant in between movie sessions, and screen guards at the Candy Bar.

HOTA’s cinema is also open, with bookings essential.
