TV’s night of nights is back on the Gold Coast after a two-year ‘commercial break’ – and for some of the small screen’s biggest names it is a welcome return.
A star-studded line-up of Australian television stars gathered at Burleigh Pavilion on Sunday for the 2022 TV Week Logie Awards nominations.
The likes of Logies ambassador Sophie Monk stunned in a red jumpsuit, but in her typical laid-back Goldy tone said “I’m blending too much with the carpet.”
And after a two-year hiatus during the peak of the Covid pandemic, the awards will be “bigger and better than ever”, according to Lego Masters’ Hamish Blake, who is nominated for the top gong, the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality.
“I think the Logies are coming back really refreshed – like Sleeping Beauty,” Blake laughed. “But it’s great to be back and any time I’m on the Gold Coast it’s a win.”
Blake told the Bulletin it was “exciting to be in a room full of people again” after the pandemic.
“It very well could be the messiest Logies of all-time, given there’s been two years of pent-up excitement,” he said.
“I can imagine Bulletin readers going, ‘oh, just what we need - a bunch of TV people coming to the Coast to get pissed for two nights’.”
New award to honour Bert Newton at 2022 Logies
Despite her extroverted personality, I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here host Julia Morris said she “never, ever gets messy” at a Logies event.
“Lots of people go off the leash but I’m not one of them. For me it’s just a work night,” she laughed.
“Oh I’ll tell you what I’m going to do (sarcasm), go psychotic in front of everyone who has ever employed me or may employ me in the future.”
Morris joked she was “praying a rogue scud missile wouldn’t go down today” and hit the Burleigh Pavilion, because “we would lose the entire Australian television industry in one go”.
“In all seriousness though, I’m so excited for the Logies to back and it’s a personal favourite of mine after 75 years in the business”.
Australia’s favourite green thumb, Costa Georgiadis of Gardening Australia, said he was “chuffed” the program was a winner for three years running and said it was great to see the industry back together for the awards event.
“People leaned on television over the pandemic so I think it’s nice to bring the industry together and celebrate everyone’s hard work during what was a challenging two years,” he said.
Mark Fren of Travel Guides said this year’s Logies will “go off” and would be “just like Hollywood on the Gold Coast.”
The 2022 TV Week Logie Awards will be held on June 19 at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre.
