New award to honour Bert Newton at 2022 Logies

Hamish Blake, Julia Morris, Karl Stefanovic, Melissa Leong, Ray Meagher, Sonia Kruger and Tom Gleeson will battle it out for the title of Australian TV’s most popular personality after being nominated for this year’s TV Week Gold Logie.
This Logies will also see TV legend Bert Newton, who passed away in October 2021, honoured for his extraordinary career with an award named in his honour.
The Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter has been introduced to mark Newton’s impact as a TV presenter and entertainer.
He won four Gold Logies during his celebrated career and was a member of the Logies Hall Of Fame. He hosted the Awards on 20 occasions including for an unbroken 14 year run between 1967 and 1980.
Newton’s wife Patti said his family was delighted with the recognition.
“We are so thrilled Bert is being recognised this way and will be part of the Logies every year
moving forward. It was such a big part of his career and he just loved it, so I know he would be pretty pleased with this honour.”
Carrie Bickmore, Hamish Blake, Leigh Sales, Melissa Leong, Sonia Kruger and Tom Gleeson are the inaugural nominees for the Bert Newton Award for Most Popular Presenter.
The Silver Logie for Most Popular Actor sees Guy Pearce nominated alongside Bernard Curry, Hugo Weaving, Ray Meagher, Rodger Corser and Stephen Peacocke.
In the Silver Logie category for Most Popular Actress Anna Torv, from The Newsreader, has been nominated as has Ada Nicodemou, Bojana Novakovic, Deborah Mailman, Kitty Flanagan and Sophie Dillman.
Married At First Sight’s love doctor Alessandra Rampolla is a surprise nominee in the Graham Kennedy Award For Most Popular New Talent alongside Carlos Sanson Jr, Matt Evans, Melanie Bracewell, Tony Armstrong and Will Lodder.
Some of Australia’s most admired actors have landed nominations in the Most Outstanding categories.
The Most Outstanding Actor sees Hugo Weaving, Jamie Dornan, Richard Roxburgh, Sam Reid and Scott Ryan nominated with the Most Outstanding Actress award drawing a top field of contenders including Anna Torv, Claudia Karvan, Deborah Mailman, Isla Fisher and
Miranda Otto.
The 2022 TV Week Logie Awards will be held on the Gold Coast on June 19 following a two year hiatus caused by the Covid pandemic restrictions.
It will be broadcast by Channel Nine.
