Emmanuel College’s ‘Teacher Drive-By’ sees more 400 students reunite with their teachers

SIBLINGS Bernardo and Victor Koelln suffer from asthma and haven’t left the house in more than six weeks due to the coronavirus outbreak.
But they can’t stop smiling because they went to school today.
The Koelln family, and another 200 cars filled with junior school children, reunited with their teachers at an Emmanuel College carpark this afternoon.
Dad Marko said it was a special moment for Bernardo, 6, and Victor, 8 to drive past their teachers.
“It has been a long time since the boys have left the house and they are missing their teachers and friends,” he said.
“It was incredible to see all the teachers lined up across the carpark with signs”.
“The boys couldn’t stop smiling.”
For Emmanuel’s “Teacher Drive By” event more than 50 Junior School teachers waved signs, handed out balloons and threw lollipops into passing cars.

Organiser and school chaplain Rod Newth said it was beautiful to see the carpark, which has been so empty, filled with kids, smiles and happiness.
“We really miss the kids and this afternoon we had lots of tears from staff and parents.”
Students have been learning from home, via virtual classrooms, since the start of Term 2.
Around 200 students are on campus and more than 300 in Prep, Year 1, 11 and 12 students are expected to return on Monday.
