Melbas Surfers Paradise: Iconic club shuts doors, confirms uncertain future after 39 years
It is understood all staff members were told last night – and laid off immediately.

A GLITTER Strip entertainment hub has confirmed its shock closure could be permanent.
It was revealed this morning that Melbas on the Park would be unlikely to continue trading on Surfers Paradise’s Cavill Avenue.
The popular venue has been in operation for 39 years.
A spokesman told the Bulletin: “There is no intention in opening (Melbas) in the near future”.
It is understood all staff members were informed last night and laid off immediately.

Melbas general manager Chris Gibson said: “There’s nothing I can say. I’m unaware, I’m out of the loop. I’m not the right person to say anything”.
It comes after Melbas nightclub NXT LVL closed abruptly on New Year’s Eve, with no explanation as to why.
Melbas has been one of the Gold Coast’s longest standing nightclubs, opening in 1981.
