HE is known for belting out the lyrics to Black Betty, but next week Mark “Kram” Maher will turn into one of the Fab Four.

The lead singer of Spiderbait will join Mark Wilson from Jet, Davey Lane from You Am I and Darren Middleton from Powderfinger for a Beatles tribute performance on the Gold Coast.

It has been 50 years since the Beatles released their famed album Abbey Road.

The latter-day foursome are calling themselves the Antipodean Rock Collective (ARC) for the performance.

“It’s interesting to be performing a record which was released 50 years ago. Some people don’t even live for that long,” Kram said.

“It had such a big influence on our careers and as people, as well as musicians and artists. It’s a real privilege for us. We are a bit in awe that this project is actually happening and there is a lot of joy about it.”

Asked what people can expect, Kram said: “It depends on the song. If I’m doing a song that’s a bit more chilled, I won’t rock it up for the sake of it. It’s whatever is right for the song.

“We are trying to do it as a close as how The Beatles would have done it as possible. We want to do the show organically.

“People often come up to me when they meet me and think I’m some crazy drug (expletive), and I’m just a bit of a hippy dude who grew up in a country town.

“It’s funny how your stage persona is a different version of yourself.”
