It’s hard enough being follically-challenged in this world.
Let’s take a moment to pity the poor bloke returning from his mate’s wedding last month who instead of being greeted by a welcome home party, was mistaken for a bikie and almost arrested.
The only thing the aircraft passenger had in common with Comanchero sergeant-at-arms and fugitive Tarek Zahed was his bald head.
It was February 23 and Balenciaga enthusiast Zahed, 40, had been on NSW Police’s wanted list for about two weeks.
He’d been charged for punching a bloke at the chic Crown restaurant a’Mare and his parole was in line to be revoked.
But he was nowhere to be seen, prompting a public appeal from NSW Police.
Someone from Criminal Groups Squad got word that the elusive bikie might be celebrating a mate’s nuptials on the luxurious Hamilton Island in Queensland.
A flight from Hamilton Island landed at Sydney Domestic Airport with half the wedding guests on board and, according to a witness, several police officers wasted no time boarding.
They made a beeline for the bald bloke seated in economy, believing it was Zahed.
But alas, they were disappointed once they got the bewildered passenger out of his seat.
The police officers dusted themselves off and disembarked.
Two days later, Zahed popped up nowhere nearby — in Melbourne.
BAD BEHAVIOUR
The NSW Police Commissioner has handed 94 badly behaving cops their marching orders since he took over the top job four years ago.
The sins have ranged from sexual harassment and bullying to drug use and domestic violence allegations.
Despite his hard-line stance, Commissioner Mick Fuller told budget estimates last week a percentage of those calls were overturned by the Industrial Relations Commission.
But he would rather have a bad behaving officer out of the organisation, he explained, than try to make them stay and punish them, only to have the punishment overturned.
“People may or may not accept that answer but that is the philosophy I take to it,” he said.
GOODES GOD!
When Adam Goodes rented out his Kensington investment property, the last thing he imagined was it turning into a scene out of Breaking Bad.
The AFL legend purchased the Milroy Ave home for $2.2 million in 2007 and it has been rented out ever since.
The five-bedroom home with the sprawling backyard looks perfect for a family but was unbeknown to Goodes recently turned into a cannabis den, it is alleged.
In an investigation suitably named Strike Force Grassy, the Redfern Region Enforcement Squad raided the Kensington property last month and found a sophisticated hydroponic set up inside with 62 plants.
Ten people were arrested in total after raids across several suburbs.
Sources close to Goodes say he is now planning to renovate the property.
