The Snitch: Coco Stedman’s mother-in-law tax accountant Filomina Kyriacou

It may be unusual for MAFS to feature in The Snitch but we couldn’t resist after Coco Stedman’s claims about her former mother-in-law. Also, who would share a tiramisu?

The Snitch doesn’t usually bother itself with matters as trivial as reality TV.

But when it comes to Coco, whose real name is Connie Stedman, from Married At First Sight, we’ll make an exception.

In the opening weeks of the show, Coco’s narrative has been driven partly by the fact that, as she claims on the show’s website, her previous marriage “fell apart after only six months because she always felt she was running second to her mother-in-law”.

There’s a certain section of Sydney that has been taking great humour out of this claim because the ex mother-in-law is Filomina Kyriacou, a tax accountant who knows controversial building industry figure George Alex.

We sent Ms Kyriacou an email on Friday offering her to respond to Ms Stedman’s claims, but she did not reply.

Ms Stedman was briefly married to Ms Kyriacou’s son George.

Readers will likely remember Ms Kyriacou from when she featured in The Sunday Telegraph last August when she was facing a ban from acting as an accountant.

This was because the Australian Taxation Office was pursuing her for $2.4 million.

According to the Tax Practitioner Board’s website, Ms Kyriacou’s registration has been terminated and she is disqualified until 2025. This came after she failed to meet the requirements of being a fit and proper person.

We’re told the wedding was a lavish affair that took place at Centennial Park and that George Alex was among the many guests.

Mr Alex is currently facing charges of masterminding a $17 million tax fraud scheme.

He is set to fight the charges and called the allegations “a total stitch up” after he was released on bail.

Ms Kyriacou is not facing any criminal charges and there is no suggestion she had any involvement in the scheme Mr Alex is accused of masterminding.

JUST FRIENDS

The recent sighting of a high-profile political figure allegedly sharing a dessert with a member of the legal community is topping the NSW gossip charts this week.

The fact the legal identity is apparently making his divorce known to his peers has fuelled speculation even further that these two may be more than “just friends”.

We’re told the pair were spotted at a North Shore eatery, which is explainable. But the added detail that they were “sharing” a dessert sent us into conniptions.

We fronted the legal identity over our suspicions.

Curiously, they refused to comment on their alleged relationship with the political figure “as a matter of principle” yet were emphatic in their denial of sharing a dessert or a tiramisu (see our inset picture – who could possibly resist!). What’s that old public relations rule? Only deny what you can deny? We’re told it’s a sensitive issue because a conflict of interest could emerge if proof of a relationship was exposed.

SAPPHIRE LOUNGE

Kings Cross nightspot Sapphire Lounge is no stranger to controversy.

So the fact that its owners are due to face the Downing Centre Local Court next month for allegedly breaching a COVID-19 health direction will only add to the club’s rich history. It’s most notorious moments came in 2008 when, in separate incidents, the club’s owner Charlie Saleh was shot in the leg only for NRL stars Jarryd Hayne and Mark Gasnier to be caught in the crossfire of a second shooting outside the club eight hours later.

Hey, it’s an improvement.
