A shocking video of a schoolgirl being bashed, allegedly by her classmate, has emerged online after what her family described as a campaign of violent online threats.
It shows Lithgow High School Year 7 student Sienna-Belle Cross trying to defend herself as another girl grabs her by the hair and punches her numerous times in the back of her head.
Local police were called to the school and are now investigating the alleged altercation between the two female students.
“Officers from Chifley Police District are investigating an assault that occurred at a high school in Lithgow yesterday,” a police spokeswoman said.
“Police were called to the school grounds after reports of an assault between two female students. The matter remains under investigation.”
An ambulance was called and she was taken to hospital to be treated for concussion.
Sienna-Belle Cross’s father Warren Cross told the Daily Telegraph his daughter was also bashed while at primary school. Police were alerted but no charges laid.
Mr Cross said: “It made it worse, now they’re calling my daughter a copper dog.”
Sienna-Belle told The Daily Telegraph she had received numerous threats from anonymous social media users threatening physical violence.
“It’s not a little school no more shit goes around so watch it sienna,” one message said.
Her mother also received Instagram messages threatening physical violence.
“Yeah yelling at me c**t I’m sick of your s**t hope you know sienna gunna cop it harder than last time,” one message said.
“Y do I care I’ll kick Sienna’s head in,” another message said.
She said she was suspended last week after she reacted to another student who called her a “dirty skank” and slapped him in the face.
But she told her parents she was concerned she would be bashed again because of the ongoing physical threats.
School staff said she could seek refuge in a room called “The Hub” where a teacher would be present.
“There is a button next to the door and you press it and it locks. If someone is chasing after you with a weapon or something you can press it and you lock it,” Sienna said.
“There is a teacher always in there.
“I don’t like going to school as much.”
Following the incident her mother Rhonda Cross said she wanted more help for bullying victims.
“I am just mortified … you think there is more help out there for our kids from bullies,” she said.
“Mental health is very big these days but what about physical violence.
“I feel angry at the situation where she feels like I have done something wrong.”
“She said this morning she wants to go to school because she doesn’t want to be the girl who is victimised.”
An Education Department spokesman said Lithgow High School had a zero tolerance approach to violence and bullying.
“The altercation yesterday was unacceptable and against Lithgow High School’s values,” he said.
“A teacher intervened promptly and the school immediately initiated an investigation and disciplinary action continues. The student who was assaulted was fully supported. The school reported the incident to police. As such it would be inappropriate to comment further on the incident.”
