Homicide detectives say they are still searching for missing toddler William Tyrrell as his family mark what should have been his 10th birthday.
The three-year-old disappeared while playing in his foster grandmother’s backyard in Kendall on the NSW Mid North Coast on September 12, 2014.
It quickly became one of Australia’s most baffling missing person cases and an exhaustive, seven year investigation failed to find any trace of William.
A lengthy coroner’s inquest was held this year and last year in a bid to determine what happened to the missing toddler.
June 26 should have been William’s 10th birthday and prompted a solemn reminder from Homicide Squad boss Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty.
“Detectives are reviewing all evidence obtained since William’s disappearance and have recently sought the assistance of numerous experts to ensure no stone is left unturned,” he said.
“While the coronial inquest is yet to be finalised, the investigation is ongoing, and the strike force team is actively engaged with the Deputy State Coroner to ensure answers are provided to William’s loved ones.
“We acknowledge that today marks another important milestone without answers for the families and as such, our focus remains on the investigation to find out what happened to William.”
It is understood those experts police have recently engaged are international and national missing person experts.
