A 37-year-old unaccompanied learner driver has been charged with high range drink-driving and speeding following a police pursuit in regional NSW on Thursday morning.
The Bathurst resident was behind the wheel of a black Suzuki, which police alleged travelled more than 10km/h over the 60km/h limit in South Bathurst.
He had three passengers including a 13-year-old boy and nine-year-old girl.
When Bathurst police tried to pull the man over, the hatchback allegedly accelerated harshly, initiating the pursuit.
After about 800m, the car eventually slowed down and came to a stop and the driver was given a roadside breath test, which returned a positive result.
The man was arrested and taken to Bathurst Police Station, where he underwent a breath analysis, which allegedly returned a reading of 0.199.
He is due to attend Bathurst Local Court on March 16 for a string of offences including the police pursuit, dangerous driving manner, learner not accompanied, high range PCA, exceeding speed by more than 10km/h and learner driver not displaying L plates.
His learner licence has been suspended.
