A quiet Ashfield Street became a buzzing crime scene in the early hours of Thursday morning, after three men suffered stab wounds during a fight at a boarding house.
Police and paramedics rushed to Charlotte Street around midnight, after a knife fight broke out at the Rochester Private Hotel.
Residents at the boarding house said they woke to “screaming, yelling, crashing and thudding” before “sirens and cops appeared from everywhere”.
A 28-year-old man suffered stab wounds to the neck and leg, while a 29-year-old man with stab wounds to his arm.
A Charlotte Street resident said the 28-year-old was in a “very bad way” as paramedics stretchered him into a waiting Ambulance.
“You could see all the blood on his neck,” he said.
“It was a really shocking thing to see actually.”
Both men were taken to Royal Prince Alfred in a serious but stable condition.
Detectives declared the boarding house a crime scene and began their search for the 31-year-old man accused of carrying out the attack.
He was found around two hours later, slumped against a wall on nearby Arthur Street, suffering a serious laceration to his hand.
He was taken to St George Hospital where he remains under police guard.
A pool of blood was still visible on Arthur St where he was found on Saturday morning, while the Rochester Hotel remained a crime scene.
Detectives and forensic officers, as well as the Public Order and Riot Squad, are continuing to search the area, seen bagging pieces of evidence.
While the cause of the knife fight is unknown, police have confirmed all three of the men involved are known to each other.
