He was known as the Angel of Death, surviving two recent attempts on his life, but on Friday, Tarek Ayoub was lowered into the ground after he was fatally shot more than two dozen times.

Hit men came after Tarek Ayoub for a third time on Monday, shooting him more than 30 times as he left the apartment of a female acquaintance on Harold St at Parramatta about 3.30am on Monday.

He was suspected of playing a role in organising multiple gangland murders in recent years — most notably the shooting of Alen Moradian at Bondi Junction in 2023.

Mourners, shocked by his death despite prior hits, wailed and howled as they arrived at Lakemba Mosque.

As Wangee Rd was flooded with Ayoub’s friends and family, police too made their arrival.

In plain clothes, uniforms, and in marked and unmarked cars, dozens of officers stood outside the mosque, as Ayoub’s body was returned from the coroner.

Ahmad Hriachie — who has dubbed himself The Muslim Undertaker — emerged from the mosque wearing a paper apron and gloves upon his arrival, as he prepared to wash Ayoub’s body as part of the Islamic the funeral service.

Men who hid their faces from waiting cameras, and women who held each other up as they filed into the mosque were heard yelling and wailing during the service.

One man ran from the mosque, screaming in grief and banging the brick walls before he was consoled by another man.

As his body was taken to the waiting hearse, several women collapsed as they cried and yelled Islamic prayers, while men dressed in shorts and t-shirts sobbed into each other’s arms.

The congregation moved from the mosque to Rookwood cemetery - where the Angel of Death’s body was buried.

Five days since the hit, police are still hunting the two masked gunmen who hopped out of a stolen Audi SUV and fired the clips of two guns at Ayoub.

State Crime Command detectives investigating Ayoub’s death under Strike Force Juneau have already linked the first getaway car used by the two gunmen to a home invasion on the Central Coast from earlier this year.

They will now work to piece together where that vehicle was stored between the time it was stolen and Ayoub’s death, while also going through evidence seized in a raid at Ayoub’s home at Yagoona on Monday.
