Sydney Jewish Museum, Darlinghurst: Three men arrested after reports of ‘Nazi salutes’

Three men have been arrested outside the Sydney Jewish Museum after police received reports of a threat. It is understood the trio, allegedly intoxicated, were doing Nazi salutes.

Three men have been charged after police received reports of a threat outside the Sydney Jewish Museum.

Officers were called to Darlinghurst Road in Darlinghurst shortly before midday on Friday where they arrested three men, aged 30, 31 and 40.

They have each been charged with behaving in an offensive manner near a public place/school and knowingly displaying by public act a Nazi symbol without excuse.

“Three men have been arrested by officers attached to Kings Cross Police Area Command, after police were called to Darlinghurst Rd, Darlinghurst shortly before midday today,” police said in a statement.

“The men have been taken to Kings Cross Police Station. While there is no ongoing risk to the public Darlinghurst Rd remains closed the public to ongoing inquiries.”

Sydney Jewish Museum staff were notified of the police operation about 12.15pm and were told to stay inside the building.

It’s understood there were no threats of violence involved in the incident.

All three men have been were released on conditional bail later on Friday afternoon and are due to appear in Downing Centre Local Court on October 31.
NSW Premier Chris Minns said he was “extremely concerned” about the allegations.

“There is no place for that in NSW and I expect, and so do NSW Police, the full extent of the law will be applied to those people,” he said.

“I want to make it clear, there will be no tolerance for racial vilification in New South Wales or incitement to violence. It’s not going to happen. Police are vigilant, there is no tolerance for it.”
