Christopher Davis charged over Panania shooting

A Sydney man accused of shooting a woman in the leg has been charged with multiple offences after being arrested more than 150km from the crime scene.

A Sydney man accused of shooting a woman in the thigh was arrested more than 150km away from the original crime scene and charged with multiple domestic violence offences.

A NSW Police statement confirmed a woman attended Liverpool Hospital on Sunday night with a gunshot wound to her right thigh after an incident in Panania, in Sydney’s southwest.

Ryde man Christopher Michael Davis was stopped in a vehicle by police on the Hume Highway, just south of Goulburn, following an extensive investigation involving officers across four specialist teams, including a domestic violence unit and highway patrol command.

The 38-year-old was subsequently arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station.

Davis was charged with 11 offences, including reckless wounding, contravening an apprehended violence order, acquiring, firing and the possession of a firearm, two counts of drug possession, two counts of drug supply, one count of possessing MDMA tablets, and breaching bail.

Davis returns to court next month.

The court mentioned six charges for which Davis had previously been granted bail, including contravening an AVO, drug possession, having stolen goods in his custody, having a stolen car, having a knife in a public place, and driving while suspended.

Davis made no application for bail on the fresh charges and the matter was adjourned to Bankstown Local Court on August 14.

The bail he had been granted on June 17 for the prior charges was revoked.

He will defend those charges at Leeton Local Court on November 17.
