A second man has been charged over his alleged role in the murder of a father and son in broad daylight in Guildford last year.

Suliman Hamza, 20, was arrested and charged with two counts of murder and knowingly/recklessly directing criminal group assisting in crime.

The charges relate to the double fatal shooting of teenage gangster Salim Hamze, 18, and his innocent father Toufik, 64, in Guildford on October 20, 2021.

Just before 9am, the pair were gunned down on Osgood St as they were preparing to leave for work in their red ute.

Salim died at the scene, while Toufik was taken by NSW Ambulance paramedics to Westmead Hospital, where he later died.

Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Ormerod to investigate the murders.

During early inquiries, Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said Toufik Hamze was an innocent bystander who had tried to steer his son away from Sydney’s gangland scene.

Earlier this year, detectives charged a 25-year-old man over his alleged role in the incident. He was charged with accessory after the fact to murder and remains before the courts.

The second man charged in relation to the crime, Mr Hamza, remains in custody and is due to face Grafton Local Court on Wednesday.

Police will allege in court that he had intentional and direct involvement in the planning and co-ordination of the vehicles used prior to and immediately after the double homicide, which was conducted as part of a joint criminal enterprise to commit these murders.

Investigations under Strike Force Ormerod are ongoing.

POSSIBLE MURDER REVENGE LINK

Earlier in the investigation, police said the double murder may have been connected to the killing of a young crime figure attached to the rival Alameddine clan two months earlier.

They said Salim Hamze’s name has come up on “multiple” occasions during investigations into some of the other gangland related shootings that have occurred on Sydney’s streets in the past two years.

Homicide Squad Commander Danny Doherty said one of the investigations was the murder of rival low-level Alameddine associate Shady Kanj which occurred in Guildford on August 6.

“His name has come up in that (Kanj) investigation and his name’s come up throughout other investigations,” Detective Superintendent Doherty said.

“Unfortunately Salim was the target for the shooting, he was ambushed, and Toufik was the innocent bystander.

“He was the loving father of Salim and ultimately he paid the ultimate price – he is paying for the sins of the son. Salim’s name has come up in a number of our investigations.”

The killings of Kanj, 22, and the Hamze father and son, all featured in The Daily Telegraph’s four-part video series The War on the more than a dozen murders on Sydney’s streets in the past 20 months.
