Strike Force Northrop: Police charge 17 people in cocaine operation

Police have charged more than a dozen people as part of a major cocaine operation centred around the Sydney CBD.

More than a dozen people have been charged as police crack down on cocaine users and dial-a-dealers ahead of Christmas Day.

Police used dial-a-dealer methodology on three nights over the past two weeks to bust 17 people in the Sydney CBD, seizing almost $20,000 worth of the drug.

During the operation, which was part of Strike Force Northrop, police seized 31g of the drug and $11,000 cash.

In September 2017, detectives attached to the Central Metropolitan Region Enforcement Squad (South), established Strike Force Northrop to investigate and target the ongoing supply of cocaine within the Greater Sydney region.

Over the past 10 days, eight people were charged with drug supply and nine people with possession.

At 5.15pm on Thursday, police charged a 31-year-old Bossley Park man with two counts of drug supply and dealing with the proceeds of crime after stopping his Toyota Corolla on Shelley St, Sydney.

Police subjected him to a search, allegedly finding 13 clear resealable bags containing cocaine, two mobile phones and $1,800 cash. He will appear before the courts next year.

A 28-year-old woman was also charged as part of the operation on Thursday night, after police stopped his Toyota Camry on Hickson St at The Rocks.

Police allegedly seized five bags of cocaine, $1200 cash and prescription medication including Antenex, diazepam, oxycontin and pregabalin.

She was charged with supply prohibited drug, deal with proceeds of crime, possess prohibited drug, and two counts of possess prescribed restricted substance.

Since its inception in 2017, Strike Force Northrop investigators have seized more than 5.2kg of cocaine, 490g of MDMA, 1.1kg of cannabis, more than $1.17 million cash, and six firearms.
