In what police describe as a brazen move, a Sydney man has been jailed for allegedly driving to a police station to report on bail while being banned from getting behind the wheel.

A Western Sydney man “brazenly” drove to a police station to report on bail, despite being banned from driving and already having a woeful history behind the wheel, police allege.

Parramatta Bail Court was told serial traffic offender Steven Halligan, 39, landed himself in trouble with police again on Friday.

The court heard from police that his latest brush with the law was “brazen” and that Halligan’s criminal history was littered with driving offences over 31 pages.

The most notable of which is a 2020 incident where he was pulled over by police in Sydney’s inner west, said he forgot his licence before speeding off in a chase through several suburbs where he hit parked cars and drove on the wrong side of the road.

He was later found after ditching his car in Marrickville.

The court heard he had served a jail term for that after being charged with 14 offences and was currently reporting on bail for similar charges when he was arrested on Friday.

It will be alleged Halligan claimed his usual driver was in the passenger seat with a sore ankle.

But when officers allegedly saw her walking comfortably in high heels, he was charged.

Halligan was denied bail and his case was adjourned to be heard again later this month.
