Six held, cop injured after wild WestConnex chase

Six people are in custody and a police officer injured following a vehicle stop and pursuit that ended in chaos inside the WestConnex tunnel.

Six people, including two minors, have been charged after allegedly driving at police in the afteramth of a wild chase through the inner west overnight.

Four men and two teens will face court tomorrow morning after police tracked them through several subrubs before their arrest ended in chaos inside the WestConnex tunnel.

About 11.20pm Friday night a stolen Land Rover led police on a chase on the M2 before officers had to abandon the pursuit due to safety reasons.

It was later tracked travelling through Sydney’s inner west where the occupants ditched it and jumped into a Toyota Echo inside the WestConnex tunnel at Haberfield.

Police there then arrested the five people when the Land Rover drove at officers, hitting one, and smashing the window of a police vehicle.

The Land Rover had recently been reported stolen from a property in Dundas.

The man allegedly driving it was under police guard in hospital but has since been charged while the police constable injured had to be treated for lacerations at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

Three men in their 20s and two teenagers were arrested by officers from Burwood at the scene have been charged and will face Parramatta Bail Court on Sunday.

Both cars have been seized and forensic police officers have been combing over the scene overnight.
