Sydney has been rocked by a second shooting in as many days after a house was sprayed with bullets in Guildford West and a car was torched in a nearby suburb overnight.
The early morning attack follows the death of a 65-year-old woman in Ambarvale on Monday night, after she was fatally struck by shrapnel when gunmen opened fire on her family home in what police described as a “targeted attack”.
In the latest incident, emergency services were called to Faulds Rd in Guildford West shortly before 2.15am on Wednesday, following reports of gunfire.
Police arrived to find multiple shots had been fired into the front of a house. No one inside the home was injured.
A crime scene was established, and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Just 40 minutes later at about 2.50am, firefighters were called to Birmingham Ave in Villawood, about 10 minutes away, to find a vehicle fully alight.
Fire and Rescue crews extinguished the blaze, but the car was completely destroyed.
Police are investigating whether the car fire is linked to the Guildford West shooting.
Police have taped off much of Faulds Rd in Guildford, from both ends, with cars regularly being forced to divert away from the street.
Officers can be seen talking to residents within the crime scene as investigations continue.
Cumberland Police Acting Superintendent Traci Watt said a 26-year-old woman inside the property was “thankfully uninjured”, although adding she was “deeply traumatised”.
“We received information that shortly after this incident, a male was seen running from the premises,” she said.
“He’s been described as wearing dark clothing and with his face covered.”
Acting Supt Watt said the man was then seen leaving in a grey SUV and appealed to the public to come forward with any information that would assist police.
She told media that some residents that both “frequent and reside” at the premises on Faulds Rd were “known to police” which will form part of the investigation.
Acting Supt Watt said police understand the woman was not the intended target of the shooting.
The twin scenes come just one day after grandmother Kim Duncan was killed when gunmen fired several shots into a home on Dickens Rd in Ambarvale just after 11pm on Monday.
The woman’s 34-year-old son desperately tried to save her after she was struck by bullet fragments.
Police believe she was not the intended target but, rather it was a “warning” shot to someone else.
Campbelltown Police Superintendent Grant Healey said three men had exited a dark-coloured sedan before opening fire.
“It’s a tragedy that (a) grandmother has been shot by cowards out the front of (their) house,” he said.
Police sources told The Daily Telegraph the shooting was targeted, and at least one person in the home is known to police.
No arrests have been made in either incident, and police are urging anyone with information or CCTV footage from either area to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
