A man allegedly blew more than seven times the legal alcohol limit after his car repeatedly crashed into gutters and median strips near Newcastle, prompting several members of the public to call the police.
NSW Police highway patrol officers received the calls from witnesses, who reported seeing a white Holden Rodeo being driven “erratically” in the Speers Point area, just after 1.30pm on Sunday.
Police said officers eventually pulled the 29-year-old driver over in Belmont, where he allegedly returned a positive breath-test result.
“He was arrested and taken to Belmont Police Station where a secondary breath analysis returned a reading of 0.359 – more than seven times the legal limit of 0.05,” police said in a statement on Sunday night.
Police suspended the man’s driver’s licence and issued him a court attendance notice, charging him with high-range drink-driving.
He is due to face Belmont Local Court on June 18.
