NSW Police charge man after clandestine drug lab explosion in San Souci

Police detectives have released vision of investigators walking through a clandestine drug lab in Sydney’s south after it exploded leaving a man with facial injuries.
It comes as police charged Hing Chung Leung, 45, with drug offences on Wednesday.
Blood stained barrels, methylamphetamine, ephedrine and sophisticated laboratory equipment were among the items seized after police responded to reports of an explosion in a Sans Souci granny flat last Thursday.
Police arrived at the property with firefighters and were told a man had allegedly fled the scene with an injury to his face.
St George police, PolAir and officers from the Dog Squad searched for the man, but he was not found.
The Drug and Firearms Squad Chemical Operations Unit, Technical and Forensic Support Unit, and Fire and Rescue NSW HAZMAT team were later called in to dismantle the drug lab.
Police allegedly seized five kilograms of methylamphetamine, 12kg of ephedrine and other chemicals consistent with the manufacture of prohibited drugs were located and seized to undergo further forensic examination.
Strike Force Bumballa was established and on Wednesday arrested a Leung at Parramatta Police Station.
He was charged with four offences including manufacture prohibited drug, large commercial quantity, two counts of supply prohibited drug, large commercial quantity and possess prohibited drug.
He appeared briefly at Parramatta Local Court - appearing to have a slightly swollen face - where he did not apply for bail.
Leung -old man — who is listed as a San Souci resident — did not enter pleas to any charges.
The matter was adjourned to January 8, with a brief to be served on his solicitor by December 28.
In court documents tendered to Parramatta Local Court on Thursday, police allege Leung manufactured 5kg of meth between 11.50am and 12.30pm on October 26 at the Sans Souci address.
Police further allege Leung supplied 5kg of methamphetamine and 12kg of ephedrine - a common precursor substance - in the same timeframe on the same date.
Leung will remain in custody on remand ahead of his next court date.
