It was in April of 2018 when I got a phone call telling me that Erkan “Eric the wolf”’ Keskin, the national president of the violent Lone Wolf bikie gang would be in Central Local Court on child pornography charges.
It was a call that would lead to the bikie boss getting so angry he was going to “red flag me”, an underworld term for having someone killed.
For the two years before that I had known Keskin was under investigation for hiring squads to carry out a series of bikie murders, paying massive amounts of money for executions while he would fly to Dubai and holiday while the deed was done.
I was told Keskin had so much money he would think nothing of paying $500,000 or more to have someone killed because he didn’t like them.
At the time Keskin was charged with posessesing child pornography images he had two ankle monitoring bracelets, one for drug charges in Queensland and the other for kidnapping charges in Sydney. We published the story, the Loneliest Wolf, before he appeared in court. That afternoon I got a call from a senior NSW police officer telling me Keskin had been given bail and was not happy with my story.
“Don’t worry he won’t try anything, we are keeping an eye on him, but if you see anything that concerns you just ring,’’ he said.
I wasn’t too concerned until about 18 months later when I met with a contact who knew Keskin well.
“You know he was that pissed off he was going to “red-flag you”, he told me.
I’d never heard the term before but I guessed pretty quickly what he meant.
“You can be a killer, a drug dealer, or even a rapist in his world, but a kiddie fiddler is the ultimate insult, and one that can get you killed, but don’t worry, I talked him out of it before he put out any sort of contract on you,’’ he told me.
Keskin left the country and the charges were ultimately dropped anyway.
