Police appeal to find driver after woman shot in Condell Park

The man wanted for allegedly shooting a woman in Condell Park and dumping her at the doors of a hospital is a convicted drug dealer who was on parole at the time for serious drug offences.

Kamal Eljamal, who has been on the run from police for three weeks over the shooting, was jailed in 2019 for five years over a drug ring with Skaf rapist Mohamed Ghanem.

Court records show Eljamal, 32, served three years of that sentence before being released on the condition that he remain on parole until June 2023.

In that case Eljamal pleaded guilty to being the person who supplied a commercial quantity of ice to Ghanem, with police surveilling him taking the bag of drugs from the boot of his car.

His fingerprints were located on the drugs, leading to his arrest.

Kamal Eljamal, 32, is wanted on an arrest warrant for shooting a woman on January 12 in Condell Park before dumping her at Bankstown Hospital and fleeing the scene.

In 2013 Eljamal was also handed a suspended jail sentence and was released from prison on a good behaviour bond over a drug supply charge.

Police believe Eljamal has been hiding in western Sydney ever since they say he is the man in tights in CCTV footage dropping a woman with a bullet wound at Bankstown Hospital on January 12.

The footage shows a man police believe to be Eljamal in a hoodie rushing around his Mercedes at the emergency department asking for help.

In it, he can be seen frantically scrambling nearby paramedics before fleeing the scene.

Eljamal is wanted on a warrant for charges of discharging a firearm causing grievous bodily harm, possessing a firearm and ammunition and using an unauthorised pistol.

Bankstown detectives under Strike Force Chelston believe the 37-year-old woman was shot through the back inside a home on Simmat Ave, Condell Park on the same day.

Detectives believe he is the man in the tights who drove the woman in his Mercedes to the hospital wearing a hood.

Police sources say she has not co-operated with police since the incident and her injuries are so severe that she may never walk again.

The woman has sustained a severed spine and serious damage to her organs and remains in hospital.

Bankstown Crime Manager Chief Inspector Darren Sly told reporters on Wednesday what happened to the woman was “appalling”.

The State Crime Command’s Robbery and Serious Crimes Squad has also been helping in the manhunt but have come up fruitless.
