Man dead after ex-partner shot in the hand during violent confrontation near Albury

A man and his ex-partner are believed to have been grappling over a gun during a violent confrontation on a rural NSW property when she was shot in the hand, according to police.

A man and his ex-partner are believed to have been grappling over a gun during a violent confrontation on a rural NSW property when she was shot in the hand, according to police.

The incident took place before he took his own life a short time later.

The body of the 68-year-old man was discovered on Kings Bridge Rd at Culcairn, near Albury, about 11.45am on Tuesday.

Police believe about three hours earlier the man had confronted the woman at a farm on Reynella Rd in Walbundrie, during which he pulled out a firearm.

It is believed the woman attempter to grab the weapon from the man when it fired, shooting her in the right hand.

The woman was treated back at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics and taken to Albury Base Hospital in a stable condition.

Police established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged shooting and death of the man.

No charges have been laid.

A short time later, police also established a secondary crime scene on Walla Walla Road in Gerogery.

As a report is prepared for the Coroner and inquiries continue, police are urging anyone with information to call Murray River police or Crime Stoppers.
