A man charged over the murder of a baby boy in the state’s far west will remain behind bars on remand.
The 20-year-old man, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, was charged with murder on Friday after a four-month-old baby boy was rushed to Gunnedah Hospital in a critical condition and later airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle, where he later died on January 21.
It is understood the person told the baby’s mother he believed he had suffered a seizure.
Local detectives and officers from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad and Child Abuse Squad, established Strike Force Monier to investigate the circumstances surrounding the child’s death before the man was arrested and charged with murder (domestic violence) on Friday morning.
Court documents allege the man murdered the baby boy between 8.50am on January 20 and 6.40pm on January 21.
His matter was mentioned in the Parramatta Local Court on Saturday, February 8, but he did not appear in court, nor did he make an application for bail.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to next face court in Tamworth on February 26.
