Man charged with murder after alleged stabbing in Windale

A man has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed another man in the chest as he opened his front door.

A man has been chased down and arrested in bushland after the stabbing of a second man as he opened the front door of his Lake Macquarie home.

Police allege 40-year-old Eddy Lemalama was stabbed in the chest at the front door of his Windale home about 4.30pm on Friday.

Jacob Bell, 21, was arrested in nearby bushland a short time later and has since been charged with murder.

He faced Newcastle Local Court today, where he did not apply for release and was formally refused bail.

He will reappear before the court on Tuesday.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death, with early indications that the men were not known to each other.

A crime scene has been established and forensic experts were expected to remain at the scene for several days.
