Man charged after alleged stabbing in Newcastle East

A man has faced court charged with stabbing a 46 year-old man on Friday afternoon in Newcastle.

A man has faced court charged with stabbing a 46 year-old man on Friday afternoon in Newcastle.

Emergency services received reports of a welfare concern around 2.10pm Friday, at an apartment on Nobbys Road, Newcastle East.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District arrived on the scene to find an 18-year-old had allegedly stabbed the 46-year-old man.

Officers intervened and arrested the alleged stabber, before paramedics were able to treat the injured man.

The 46-year-old was then transported to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

Police believe the men were known to one another.

The alleged offender was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with reckless wounding.

He appeared at Newcastle Local Court on Saturday, where he was granted conditional bail.

He will attend the same court later this month.
