One of their two sons, Allan Chiem, 31, has been charged with their murder after he was dramatically arrested by police inside the family’s Canley Heights home in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Shop owners in the Oxford St strip of shops near Buzzy Bees Burger House, as well as customers, said it was “widely known” the couple was retiring early next year.
Police allege Allan Chiem stabbed to death his parents then fled through a roof cavity.
Sources close to the investigation said police will allege he motivated by a family rift.
A neighbour at the family’s Wyong St home said there was also a daughter but she was not often around.
“I’m pretty sure there was two sons and a daughter but you mainly only ever saw the sons,” a neighbour said.
Martin Swinnerton was the last customer “Ma and Pa” ever served, when he ordered takeaway on Friday night.
“We became good friends over the years, and I’m going to miss them deeply,” Mr Swinnerton said.
“Going to miss you two and your delicious tasting food, especially your steak sandwiches. RIP you beautiful people.”

“Tek and Kim were beautiful, hardworking Cambodian people who became hardworking Australians, loved by the community,” he said.

“Our community has suffered an unimaginable loss with the tragic passing of Tek and Kim. For over 30 years, they dedicated their lives to serving us with kindness, warmth, and the most incredible food. They weren’t just hardworking individuals, they were a part of our family,” an organiser wrote.

“To honour Tek and Kim’s memory and to support their family, we invite you to join us for a community vigil. Together, let’s celebrate their lives and create a space for healing and remembrance.”
