Three men have been charged over an alleged fraudulent pink slip scheme linked to a Castle Hill car dealership, with police claiming vehicles with serious safety defects were passed during inspections.

Highway Patrol officers began investigating in May after discovering two heavily modified vehicles — a Nissan 200SX and a Nissan 180SX — in Seven Hills during an unrelated probe.

Despite lacking basic safety features such as airbags, anti-lock braking systems and compliant suspension, both vehicles had recently been issued valid safety inspection reports – known as pink slips – by a Castle Hill dealership.

Investigators allege the vehicles also had dangerous frontal protrusions and failed to meet several minimum safety standards.

Following inquiries, police charged three men aged 39, 40 and 42 with offences including knowingly producing false or misleading documents and breaching the conditions of an examiner’s authority. The two older men also face charges of issuing false or misleading inspection reports.

Police allege the men were responsible for 22 fraudulent pink slips between January and May.

All three have been issued court attendance notices to appear before Parramatta Local Court on Wednesday.
