Two men have died on the state’s roads in less than 24 hours, bringing the death toll to 322 just 21 days to Christmas, eleven more deaths than at the same point last year.

One man died after a two-vehicle crash in Cecil Hills on Tuesday night with emergency services called to the M7 Motorway northbound on Elizabeth Dr about 9.15pm.

Liverpool police officers attended the scene and were told a car and a truck travelling in the opposite direction had collided head on.

The driver of the car, a man believed to be in his 50s, was treated by paramedics, however, he died at the scene.

He is yet to be formally identified.

The male truck driver, believed to be in his 50s, was uninjured and taken to hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene was established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash has started.

And just hours later a man died after a three-vehicle crash on the New England Hwy in Liddell.

Emergency services were called to the highway about midnight on Wednesday after reports of a crash.

Hunter Valley police officers arrived to the scene and found two cars had collided and a truck had later hit the vehicles.

The male driver of the green sedan died at the seen and is yet to be formally identified.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

The 22-year-old female driver of the silver sedan was trapped for a short time before being freed by firefighters.

She was treated at the scene before being airlifted to John Hunter Hospital in a serious condition.

The male truck driver, believed to be in his 40s, was uninjured and taken to Muswellbrook Hospital for mandatory testing.

A crime scene has also been established, and an investigation into the crash has commenced.
