A teenage boy charged over the stabbing death of a pizza shop owner in Sydney’s west will remain behind bars on remand.

The teenager has been charged with murder following the death of Sonmez Alagoz, 58, who was knifed in the chest at Kingswood and died in hospital early Wednesday morning.

The 15-year-old boy, who cannot be identified, did not appear or make a bail application when his matter was heard in Parramatta Children’s Court on Thursday.

Three family members were sitting in the public gallery as his case was adjourned to March 3.

Six other teenagers were arrested and questioned, but released without charge, pending further inquiries.

Emergency services were called to the Great Western Highway, near Kingswood Train Station, shortly before 10.30pm on Tuesday, where they found Mr Alagoz suffering a stab wound to his chest.

The longtime owner of The Pizza Stop in Kingswood was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

He died from his injuries shortly after 12.30am on Wednesday.

A crime scene was established, and detectives launched an investigation under Strike Force Narrira, assisted by the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Following inquiries, six teenagers – two boys, aged 15 and 17, two girls, aged 13, and two men, aged 18 and 19 – were arrested at homes in Werrington, South Penrith, and Penrith. They were taken to Penrith and St Marys Police Stations but were later released pending further inquiries.

Just before 1.10pm on Wednesday police arrested a 16-year-old boy at St Marys Police Station.

He was later taken to Mt Druitt Police Station and charged with murder.

The teenager was refused bail and is due to appear in a children’s court on Thursday.

Nepean Police Area Commander Detective Superintendent Trent King said the man was about to close up for the night before disaster struck.

“This was a man who was going about running his business within the local area and certainly didn’t deserve what occurred,” he said.

Inquiries under Strike Force Narrira remain ongoing.
