Prominent Sydney rapper and alleged Alameddine crime network member Ali Younes has been given permission to board a flight and travel anywhere in Australia to perform for his legion of fans after a court stripped back his bail conditions on Tuesday.

Younes, who goes by the moniker ‘Ay Huncho’, is facing charges of affray, recklessly causing grievous bodily harm in company and assault with intent to participate in the activity of a criminal group, over an alleged altercation at a boxing event in late-November last year.

He was one of four alleged Alameddine associates wanted at the time by police cracking down on the crime family’s network.

Younes successfully applied for bail in the NSW Supreme Court in February, however his release from custody came with a series of stringent conditions designed to govern his daily movements and interactions.

Among the conditions were restriction that banned him from leaving the state of NSW or going within 500 metres of any interstate or international airport.

He was also prohibited from entering any licensed premises and had to be home by 11pm under the terms of a court-imposed curfew.

However, Younes was granted special permission earlier this month to travel by car to Canberra to perform in a one-off concert, with a magistrate agreeing to suspend his bail conditions for a 10-hour period.

In Fairfield Local Court on Tuesday, defence lawyer Abdul Saddik sought to permanently change Younes’ bail conditions “for the purposes of his employment”.

Magistrate James Gibson agreed to delete the curfew and licensed premises restrictions, and imposed new bail conditions that will allow 24-year-old Younes to leave NSW and fly anywhere in the country to perform, provided he gives written notice to police at least 24 hours before he boards the plane.

He also doesn’t have to report to the Merrylands Police Station on the days he is away on business.

A police prosecutor indicated in court that any alterations to Younes’ bail were formally opposed, however he did not speak against the proposed changes during the proceedings.

Magistrate Gibson said Younes’ had been complying with “very strict” bail conditions since his release from custody.

“Police are effectively opposing any changes but in my view it’s unworkable [given his job],” he said.

“It seems to me the conditions are so strict they could be varied somewhat to allow him to engage in employment, and still protect the community as required.”

Other conditions of Younes’ bail, including a non-association order with any alleged members of the Alameddine clan and a $50,000 surety, remain in place.
