Sydney rapper Ali Younes — known professionally as Ay Huncho — has asked his ‘favourite court’ for permission to travel into Canberra for a concert later this month.
He is currently on bail on charges of affray, reckless grievous bodily harm, and assault person with the intention to participate in the criminal activity of a criminal group after surrendering to police in December 2021.
As part of his bail conditions, handed down by the Supreme Court, the Merrylands rapper was forbidden from associating with any alleged members of the Alameddine clan.
Younes was previously pulled before the court after police alleged he broke his bail by posting a picture with a member of the Alameddine clan, which they claim had his face obscured by a devil emoji.
But lawyer Abdul Saddik successfully argued it was impossible to identify the man.
Appearing in Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday, Younes joked with police as he waited for his matter to be heard, telling his lawyer it was his “favourite court”.
Magistrate James Gibson said Younes had been complying with his bail conditions for some time now.
“I know you chose these conditions in the Supreme Court,” Mr Gibson said. “What conditions can still let him work?”
Mr Saddik requested his client be allowed to leave Sydney at 8pm on August 26, returning on the 27th at 6am, with Younes to be accompanied by his manager for the entire time he is out of the state.
Additionally, he asked for Younes to be allowed to enter licenced premises, necessary to complete the show.
Police did not oppose the request, and Mr Gibson granted the amendment for the 10-hour period.
“It’s clearly the case that it’s for a work purpose,” Mr Gibson said.
Canberra nightclub Fiction Club is already promoting the Ay Huncho appearance, with the first release of tickets already sold out.
Donning custom monogrammed sunglasses and stepping outside of court, Younes told the Fairfield Advance he’s excited to see his fans.
“I am excited to perform for my fanbase, looking forward to putting on a good show and just coming back home,” the rapper said.
