A wild airport brawl between alleged Alameddine associates and Hamze family members, one who was later murdered, has resulted in three men being arrested over the alleged public fight at a NSW airport.
The five men, three from the Hamze side including senior figure Ghassan Amoun, and two others were on the same flight from Sydney to Ballina on February 25 last year when the alleged incident occurred.
Police claim the two groups clashed near the baggage carousel soon after the flight arrived at 12.15pm.
Amoun, 35, brother of Brothers for Life founder Bassam Hamzy was gunned down in a South Wentworthville beauty salon last January, three days after being released from prison.
None of those charged are accused of any involvement in Amoun’s death.
More than forty people including a number of children were in the public area at the time of the alleged fight.
Airport security broke up the alleged fracas, escorted two men from the facility and called local police, but by that time all five had left the scene.
Officers attached to the Richmond Command conducted initial inquiries into the affray, before the matter was referred to detectives from the State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad. They started an investigation under Strike Force Newnham.
More than a year after the incident, police charged three men on Wednesday.
John Ray Baysarri, 31, Rodrigo Heriquez, 39, and Dagher Ghamrawi, 41 were all charged with affray.
Baysarri and Ghamrawi are alleged to be strongly linked to the Alameddine clan.
They have all been granted conditional bail with Baysarri to appear at Parramatta Local Court on September 13 and the other two men to appear at Bankstown Local Court on September 15.
A fifth man is still wanted by police.
Police have CCTV footage taken from the airport but are appealing to the public if anyone has mobile phone footage of the incident urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
