A former Sydney kickboxer, who was on death row in Thailand, has been charged with murder eight years after the infamous fight club death of Bradley Dillon.

Antonio Bagnato, 33, arrived in handcuffs escorted by Homicide Squad detectives off a flight from Bangkok about 6am this morning.

He faced Parramatta Bail Court today after being held in custody in Thailand, where he allegedly moved to after initially fleeing to Cambodia in the wake of Mr Dillon’s death in 2014.

A year later Bagnato was convicted of murdering Hells Angel bikie Wayne Schneider and was on death row in a Thai prison before being released in 2018.

That murder conviction was overturned and downgraded to assault after the Thai court heard Schneider was kidnapped and bludgeoned to death in the town of Pattaya.

Bagnato was allegedly the leader of the St Michael’s fight club in Leichhardt where Mr Dillon was gunned down.

The Sydney father was stabbed and shot in the back after attempting to recover $2000 his sister had loaned to a member of the secretive club.

He arrived at the club where he arranged to meet two members but was told to go to an underground carpark where he was killed and left dying in the roadway.

Several people have since been charged and convicted over their roles in the murder of Mr Dillon.

Bagnato’s arrest comes after Homicide Squad detectives recently applied to a Thai court to have him extradited back to Australia.

It is understood the Thai police arrested Bagnato after Australian authorities flagged they wanted to extradite him.

When his case went before Parramatta Bail Court today he remained in the cells and his case was adjourned to a date later this year.

“Investigators have continued to work tirelessly to ensure this man faced justice for his alleged involvement in Mr Dillon’s murder,” Homicide Squad Commander Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

“Today’s result could not have been achieved without the ongoing support and assistance of our international law enforcement partner agencies – particularly the Royal Thai Police and Australian Federal Police.

“Bradley was a father who was senselessly murdered, and the simple fact is that if you engage in that sort of violent behaviour, police will always track you down and hold you to account,” he said.
