High-ranking underworld associate Murat Gulasi has been laid to rest in Sydney, less than a week after his sudden death in Turkey.
Gulasi, 33, died of a suspected heart attack in front of shocked friends after a gym session last Friday night Australian time.
He was known to be receiving treatment for a heart condition before leaving Sydney earlier this year.
Gulasi’s body landed back home on Wednesday, with hundreds turning up at Gallipoli Mosque in Auburn on Thursday to pay their respects to a man police sources described as a low-key, but powerful member of the Alameddine crime clan.
Security guards stood at the entrance to the mosque as his coffin, draped in a green Islamic sheet, sat at the entrance to the mosque.
Mourners lined up down the stairs waiting to pray over his body.
Among those gathered were fellow alleged Alameddine associates Ali “Ay Huncho” Younes, Mostafa Hafizi and Mohamad Alameddine.
Younes was one of Gulasi’s closest mates and took to Instagram in the aftermath of his death to pay tribute.
“My beautiful big brother, my heart hurts. I’m lost I love you so much my akhi,” he wrote.
“This life isn’t going to be the same without you. Sleep well big bro I love you (to) death.”
NSW Police allege the Alameddine clan has been central to the gangland war unfolding on Sydney’s streets over the past two years, with a total of 16 people killed so far.
Gulasi was himself lucky not to have been killed when he was shot multiple times as he walked into World Gym at Prospect on November 29, 2021.
