Heartbroken friends of a northern NSW man who died after being tasered by police in northern NSW have expressed their shock at the sudden death.
Gunnedah man James Peachey, 27, was tasered and pepper-sprayed during a scuffle with police on Thursday night.
Two officers from the Oxley Police District were called to a home in Gunnedah about 8pm due to concerns about the man’s behaviour.
Mr Peachey was allegedly acting aggressively towards police when they tried to speak with him.
Police said a taser and OC spray were used on Mr Peachey, and he then lost consciousness.
Police officers performed CPR on Mr Peachey until paramedics arrived at the scene and took him, unconscious, to Gunnedah Hospital.
He died at hospital a short time later.
A female police officer was also taken to hospital, where she was treated for a bite wound to her right forearm and an injured left knee.
A critical incident team from NSW’s State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The investigation will also be subject to independent review.
