A man was tasered during a scuffle with police after they allegedly discovered guns and ammunition during a fire at a northern beaches home today.
Police were at the semirural property at Belrose with firefighters after reports that a carport which had caught alight may have contained ammunition.
Emergency services were called to the 2.3ha property in Hilversum Cres just before noon on Monday.
But firefighters from the Belrose Rural Fire Service brigade then contacted police at about 12.15pm because the man, 54, was allegedly becoming uncooperative.
When the Manly Daily arrived in Hilversum Cres it saw at least four uniformed police officers trying to wrestle the man to the ground about 50m from the large house.
During the scuffle on a grassed area one of the officers appeared to shout “taser, taser” as the man was struggling with police.
The man then started shouting in pain as he lay on the ground.
Officers tried to calm him down and told him that an ambulance had been called and would arrive soon.
Firefighters quickly put out the fire in the car port on the property, which backs on to the Glenaeon Retirement Village at Belrose.
Paramedics arrived about 20 minutes later and examined the man.
He was then taken into custody and taken to Manly Police Station where he was questioned on Monday afternoon.
A police spokesman said and an amount of ammunition, and other items allegedly found in the car port, were seized.
Two firearms where also found nearby, police alleged.
Police also alleged the man assaulted an officer.
When officers began speaking to the man, he became agitated and allegedly punched a male probationary constable in the face, a spokesman said.
The officer was also treated at the scene by paramedics.
Police confirmed that a Taser had been used after the man allegedly resisted officers.
