With Bendigo racking up 32 points in the first quarter of their matchup on Friday night, Chambers said the Flames were looking at having a shocking 120 points plus posted against them.

“There was no way they wanted that,” she said.

The result, the Flames first points of the season and the confidence to back up a night later to topple defending champions Townsville Fire.

The resurgence has seen two Flames members named in the WNBL team of the week,

Perth Lynx gun Sami Whitcomb made the team for the third successive week with Flames guard Leilani Mitchell cracking it for the second time.

Teammate and American import Asia Taylor was also named along with Jayco Dandenong Rangers’ Steph Cumming and Boomers player Alice Kunek.

The Sydney Uni Flames have a bye this round.

Their next match is a rematch with Townsville on their turf on November 5.
