Something very unusual happened to paddling legend Jess Fox on Sunday - she came away from a World Cup final empty-handed.

Untouchable in World Cup racing last season, Fox says she has learned valuable lessons from her K1 racing in Bratislava despite failing to finish on the podium.

The reigning K1 world champion finished sixth on a testing and fast course but admits she was lucky just to have made the final.

“It was very lucky for me to be in the final to start with because I made a big mistake in the semi-final but managed to really push to the finish,” Fox said.

“In a way it was a lesson to never give up because anything can happen.

“And my final run was solid until the finish. Unfortunately. I came a little bit unstuck in the last two ups, which are really tight moves.

“So, no medal today, but it’s another final and you can always learn from these runs.”

Fox still has the chance for success at the event and will race the C1 semi-finals early Monday.
